Club presidents gain a large amount of knowledge in a short period of time about how our corner of the Lower East Side fits into the broader city political scene: process, personalities, policy, and more. In order to ensure their continued (voluntary) engagement, an amendment to the Grand Street Dems bylaws is proposed to expand the Executive Committee by two emeritus members, the most recent two club presidents.
The relevant passage is in Article 6, Section 1 – Executive Committee Composition:
Membership in the Executive Committee shall consist of the Officers and the current District Leaders and State Committee members who are members of this Club with voting privileges.
The proposed amendment would change that to:
Membership in the Executive Committee shall consist of:
1. Elected Club Officers;
2. Current District Leaders and State Committee members, provided they are members of this Club with voting privileges; and
3. The previous two elected Club Presidents, provided they are members of this Club with voting privileges.
Members with voting privileges will have the opportunity to vote on this proposed amendment at our next general meeting, November 10.
